25th April 2019
It was a proud feeling to receive feedback from Shaurya Chauhan who has recently been recommended from SCN...on 17th April 2019. - Director AMAS
I am Shaurya Chauhan and I got recommended from 31 SSB, Kapurthala on 17th of April, 2019.
I was a repeater and before this attempt I had been conferenced out thrice. AMAS has been instrumental in pointing out my flaws and helping me work on them.
My reporting was on 13th of April (SSC T. 53). 265 students reported that day. The first test held was OIR which I found to be very easy because of the several training modules that I was given at AMAS; numerous questions (Example series, Dice etc) were of similar nature.
For the PPDT, we were shown a hazy picture and most of the people unnecessarily perceived a problem in it but I easily managed to write a sports related story on it, because I spent considerable amount of time observing the foreground and the background.
For the narration, I rehearsed the story multiple times and narrated it with full confidence without stuttering or stammering. In the GD, I was cooperative and did not add to the chaos. Rather, I contributed by making a few but good points. 34 people were screened in.
Day 2
During my TAT, 4 of the pictures were the same as shown at AMAS during practice sessions, for the TAT, I made sure I empowered my main character and did not write wishful stories or assume problems not shown. I completed all 60 WATs because I had practiced a lot and kept the points given by MP sir in mind. I managed to completed 55 SRTs, for SRT, Practice and quick writing is the key, using of punctuation marks is very important as they save time. My SD was a very honest one and was approved by MP Sir during my coaching days.
I was called for my interview shortly after and the president of the board took the interview. No rapid fire questions were asked, it was rather full of probing questions on my life decisions, science (physics to be precise), sports (written in my PIQ and other sports too) as well as elections and military knowledge. I was pressurised a lot by the interviewer but I did not give in to the pressure and kept a subtle smile throughout.
Day 3
I gave most of the ideas during the PGT, the ideas taught at AMAS was instrumental in helping me tackle the PGT, HGT and we managed to clear all PGTs well within time. The GD went without any chaos and we were told to discuss about the problem in north-east. I gave a few points which were fresh in news and did not disagree with anyone.
In the GPE, I kept the format told by MP sir in mind and kept my handwriting as clear and readable as possible. During the discussion, I contributed by giving my solutions and also improvising the solution given by the others, the key was to not disagree with anyones idea but to add points to make their idea workable.
I spoke on the topic GST during the lecturette and reading the newspaper daily helped me gather a lot of stats and points for the lecturette, I spoke for full 3 mins covering all pros cons as well as future scope.
Day 4
The first task was the individual obstacle, I did 8 tasks but made sure that I complete all the difficult ones so that the GTO does not think that I’m avoiding them due to any reason. In the command task, I was given a semicircular task and the objective was to retrieve a bomb. The GTO made me go through all the 3 approaches and also increased the difficulty by taking one helping material away.
The FGT went smoothly as well, I contributed a couple of ideas in it.
Day 5
My conference didn’t last for a long time, neither did the discussion. I was asked if I’m nervous (because I stated it as a weakness to both the interviewer and the GTO) to which I replied” I’m not, I was a little when I was outside but not anymore”, then I was asked a little about my hometown, my current group in the SSB as well as my performance and I answered honestly and the conference ended in less than 2-3 mins.
Finally, the results were announced and 2 of us were recommended.
Joining AMAS was one of the best decisions I took as it helped me introspect about the mistakes I was making and highlighting my strengths in front of the assessors.
Thank you.
